Search Engine Optimization (SEO for short) is simply the process of obtaining website visitors (or traffic) from “free” or “organic” search results in search engines like Google or Bing. SEO is a process of optimizing online content so that a search engine likes to show it as a top result for searches of a certain keyword.
At its core, search engine optimization (SEO) is about increasing your website’s visibility in the organic search results of major search engines. If SEO is done early and done well, it can be the most cost and time efficient stage of building your website.
Let’s further break this definition into simpler words:
- Quality of Traffic: How to get visitors through the non-paid optimization; only way is to have quality traffic i.e. Once you have the right people clicking through from those search engine results pages (SERPs).
- Non-Paid Medium: For all the organic traffic/clicks there is no amount to be paid.
- Quantity of Traffic: Traffic improves once right people clicking through Search Engine Result pages.
SEO is the magic you have to work on your article in order to make Google very likely to include your post as one of the top results whenever someone searches for that keyword.
Generally, the more frequently a website appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users; these visitors can then be converted into customers.
To get that visibility, you must understand three core components:
- Content Type: What types of content people want or need.
- Search Engine: How search engines work.
- Optimization: How to properly promote and optimize your website.
We will discuss these topics in more in detail in upcoming lectures.
